Wang Jinwen, a PhD student in Tsinghua University, has questioned the mayor of Weifang, Shandong Province over forced relocations that demolished his house, the Beijing News reports. In a letter to the mayor, Wang said that forced relocations backed up by bulldozers are the wrong way for urbanization and shouldn't disrupt social harmony. Wang said his common sense as a citizen and his expertise in law contributed to his decision to send the letter. |

Wang also said he had declined an anonymous offer of 1.38 million yuan to compromise. The mayor hasn't responded to the letter, but the district chief said he would meet Wang in Beijing to negotiate and said the mayor is aware of it. |

Toyota announced yesterday that it will repair some 650,000 Prius hybrids worldwide, including 2,588 hatchbacks in China, the Beijing Times reports. The vehicles could overheat as a result of a cooling pump flaw. Toyota says it's not forced to recall the vehicles but is doing so to keep its customers satisfied. |

Shandong Province has revised its regulations on the protection of cultural relics to oblige firms carrying out construction projects covering more than 20,000 square meters to first check for archeological remains and other items of cultural value, the Qilu Evening News reports. Construction firms that violate the regulations face fines of between 200,000 and 1 million yuan. The new regulations are the first of their kind in China. |

Stray dogs can be killed if they are not claimed and taken custody of within 30 days, according to a rule of the Shanghai government, the Guangzhou Daily reports. There are more than 600,000 stray dogs in Shanghai, and 140,000 incidents of dogs attacking people were reported last year. |
