Coin Issued to Mark 1911 Revolution


The People's Bank of China (PBOC) announced Wednesday that a commemorative coin is to be issued on September 27 to mark the 90th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution.

According to the PBOC, the brass coin is denominated at five yuan, and has a diameter of 30 mm.

One side of the coin features the national emblem and ribbons, as well as the characters reading "People's Republic of China" and year of the issuance; while the reverse side shows a representation of the Wuchang Uprising on the Monument to the People's Heroes at Tian'anmen Square and the characters for "1911 Revolution," which was led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and overthrew the Qing Dynasty.

Ten million of the coins will be issued.
