Chinese President Hu extends Children's Day greetings

Monday marks International Children's Day. On the eve of this special day, Chinese President Hu Jintao visited 2 primary schools in Beijing, where he took the chance to extend his holiday greetings to children across the country.

The first school Hu Jintao visited is in the suburbs. Ninety percent of its pupils are children of migrant workers.

He went into some classes, (natural sound, Hu Jintao greets & children applauding)...and even helped students complete their class assignments.

The President showed concerned for more than just studying. He also went to dormitories to learn about the living conditions in the school. He was pleased to see children taking good care of themselves.

Hu Jintao also joined some of them in their games.

Chinese President Hu said, "Your school is a special one. Many of you followed your parents to Beijing. In order to provide you access to good education, the country has issued special policies, your schools and teachers are making great contributions, and your parents are working really hard for that. I hope you will cherish these precious opportunities, be diligent and study hard to live up to your school motto, I'm responsible, I'm capable, and I'm happy. "

Hu Jintao told officials that migrant workers play a very important role in the country's modernization, and they have made great contributions to economic and social development.

He said government departments should spare no efforts in giving children of migrant workers access to education.
