Children's Day offers kids in Shanghai plenty to do, including a kids' charity gala, plays, feature films, toy displays and the latest star-making show, "Happy Girls."
Haha TV, the city's only children's TV channel, will host its annual charity gala from 7:30pm on Monday.
The gala features a multimedia children's musical play about two leopard cubs who go on a long journey to find their parents at the Mountain of Hope. From jungle to desert to ocean, they have adventures and make friends with a firefly, chameleon and a mermaid, among other folks.
The play features magic and acrobatic shows and a performance by a children's chorus from quake-hit Dujiangyan City in Sichuan Province.
Gala performers will include TV hosts Zhou Jin, Jin Wei, Chen Chen and 2006 "My Hero" runner-up Song Xiaobo. All proceeds will be donated to the Haha Charity Foundation to aid children who suffer accidents.
From tomorrow through next Monday, the Toys"R"Us store will display limited-edition toys, such as the Transformers and Pleasant Goats.
Earlier this year, the domestic cartoon feature "The Pleasant Goat and the Big Big Wolf" did surprisingly well in the box office. The Hollywood live action blockbuster "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" will be released in China on June 26.
Kids can have their photos taken with these cartoon figures and other Disney characters, join interactive games and receive gifts, free film tickets and posters.
The film "New Boy Jia Li" - about a winning student basketball team - opened yesterday. Based on a popular children's book by author Qin Wenjun, it's about the bond between an enthusiastic teacher and his students who goes on to win the school championship. It stars mainland child star Wang Chengyang as Jia Li and Taiwanese pop idol Ethan Ruan as the teacher.
Additionally, following the success of "Happy Boys" and "Super Girls," Hunan Satellite TV has launched its new star-making TV show "Happy Girls."
The popular video Website Joy.cn will broadcast the elimination rounds live and present video clips about the stories behind the competition.
