The Social Innovation and the Third Sector Conference, jointly organized by the British Council in China and the State Administration for NGOs of the People's Republic of China opened on December the 4th.
The 'third sector' refers to Non-governmental Organizations and their networks which are established by various social organisations and are either not for profit or otherwise directed towards some social purpose.
The two-day conference focused on the role of the third sector in stimulating social innovation and driving social change, the cooperation between government and the third sector, and Social Organisations.
The conference brought together more than 120 government officials, third sector representatives, and academics. Ms. Barbara Woodward, Chargé d'Affaires of the British Embassy, Mr. Sun Weilin, Director-General of State Administration for NGOs and Ms. Anne McGuire MP, Cabinet Office Adviser on Third Sector Innovation, all attended the meeting.
