The 45th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards were presented in Taipei. The biggest surprise was the appearance of Taiwan actress Lin Ching-Hsia, also known as Brigitte Lin. She retired from acting and has been absent from the entertainment scene for 14 years. Her appearance at the awards the ceremony was met with thunderous applause from the audience and filmmakers. It was a nostalgic moment as people recalled how much they had admired Lin during her career.

Lin's ten-minute appearance at the Golden Horse Awards ceremony was kept secret. She arrived in Taiwan by private plane. She was not seen entering the theatre along the red carpet. She entered the building quietly and entered the dressing room. Lin's partner in presenting awards at the ceremony was Oscar winning director Ang Lee. Lee said the only reason he joined this year's event was because he knew Lin would be there.
