A new remote sensing satellite, Yaogan Five, has been launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern China's Shanxi Province.

The satellite was launched on a Long March-4B carrier rocket. This is the 114th launch for China's Long March series. The satellite's chief developer, the China Academy of Space Technology, says the Yaogan Five will be used for data collection and transmission.

The data will concern land resource surveys, environmental surveillance and protection, disaster prevention and relief, as well as space science experiments.
