The producers of Shrek have brought a little piece of the swamp to New York City for the Broadway opening of "Shrek the Musical". The curtain went up on Monday.
Stars walking the green carpet for the animated-movie-turned-stage-show included Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Judith Light and Phylicia Rashad.
Diaz says she's a big fan of the stage version. That's because there's a lot more room for humor and chemistry between the actors. The actress voices Princess Fiona in the film franchise.
Cameron Diaz, actress, said, "It's great to see all of the actors playing it together because when we do it for the animated we never see each other we don't work with one another we all record separately and then they put it all together so you don't really get the dynamics and chemistry that you get with other actors, and up here everyone works so well with one another that it's a lot of fun to watch."
The show opened on Broadway on Monday. It takes place in a unique, fairy-tale world, where Shrek, played by Brian d'Arcy James, sets out to rescue Princess Fiona. He is also determined to get his swamp back from the scheming Lord Farquaad.
Tony-winning actress Sutton Foster plays Fiona in the musical.
Including Foster, the show boasts four Tony-nominated actors.
