According to a study published yesterday by shopping website Kelkoo, 1.7 million Britons still wear underwear they bought more than 10 years ago, the Mail Online reported. Almost a quarter of those admitted wearing the offending items more than 250 times before finally buying new ones. More than a quarter of men admitted wearing the same underwear two days in a row, without washing, compared to just 7% of women. A further 14% of men and 3% of women admitted wearing the same drawers for three days or longer. Laboratory tests detected bacteria on 83% of all tested underwear samples over a year old, and in some cases, they even discovered E. coli. The most popular reason given for hanging on to old briefs was comfort (68%) while others were reluctant to part with them for "sentimental reasons" (7%).
