The new tide of investment migration starting from the 21st century has its features. The migrants want to change their nationalities but continue to live in China. They are mainly the newly rich and intellectual elite. The most popular countries are Canada, the US and Australia. The main reason is for children's education.

Internet café blast kills 6

贵州网吧爆炸6人死亡 

At least 6 people were killed and 38 others injured – 9 seriously – in an explosion that ripped through an Internet café in the downtown area of Kaili, Guizhou Province, Saturday night, Xinhua reports. Chemicals illegally stored in an adjacent room were the source of the blast. The blast occurred at around 11:05 pm. Its shock wave shattered the windows of nearby buildings. Local police have yet to identify the victims, and a further investigation is underway.

Gold imports into China have soared this year, turning the country into a major buyer for the first time in recent memory, the Financial Times reports. Figures revealed on Thursday showed more than 209 tons of gold were imported through the Jan-Oct period this year, almost five times the volume of last year. The surge puts China on track to overtake India as the world's largest consumer of gold and a powerful force in global prices.

At least 2 people have been killed and 83 injured yesterday after a Russian passenger jet with 168 people on board made an emergency landing at Domodedovo airport, 30 km south of Moscow, after all three engines cut out, Bloomberg reports. The plane was a Soviet era Tu-154, the same type as one that crashed in April and killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski.

The Constitutional Council of Cote d'Ivoire invalidated Alassane Ouattara's majority and declared the incumbent Laurent Gbagbo the winner of the presidential election. Both candidates declared victory afterward, CNN reports. French President Nicholas Sarkozy appealed for calm and urged military and civilian officials to respect the will of the people in the West African country while US President Barack Obama warned Gbagbo that "the international community will hold those who act to thwart the democratic process and the will of the electorate accountable for their actions."
