Lafarge Dujiangyan Cement Co., Ltd., a Sino-French joint venture, has passed a four-month test run and has commenced operations as the largest cement manufacturer in the western region of China.
The plant, with an annual capacity of 1.4 million tons of cement, is jointly set up by France-headquartered building materials giant Lafarge Group and a local company in Dujiangyan City of Sichuan Province, in southwest China.
It is also the first turnkey project in China's cement industry. The general contractor of the cement plant was China Building Materials Tangshan Corporation.
According to Nicolas Lecerf, a Lafarge official in charge of public affairs in Asia, the international giant is one of the world's largest building materials' manufacturer. Lafarge has 100 cement factories in over 70 countries, with a total annual capacity of 150 million tons of cement.
