Liu li chang
The street of Liu li chang is famous for stores specializing in antiques. Located in Qianmen area, Liu li chang has kept its original look with a traditional Chinese atmosphere. Liu li chang literally means factory of colored glaze in Chinese. It thrived in early Qing Dynasty in mid 17th century. It was located in the western part of the outer city where top Han officials dwelled. Provincial guildhalls representing different areas across China were built. Local officials and candidates for the imperial exams also usually gathered in the book fair of Liu Li chang. The prosperous marketplace has gradually turned to a street with strong cultural elements where you can find everything from pens, ink, paper, inkstones, and antiques to calligraphy and paintings.
