Barcelona are the champions of Europe! The Spanish Primera Liga winners beat Manchester United in a superb Champions League finale to win their third European title, also completing a treble after claiming their league and national titles.
Rome's Olympic Stadium was the venue this season for what many were calling a dream final between defending champions Manchester United and Barcelona. United had held a 25-match unbeaten run in Champions League and 3-4-2 record over Barca, while the Spanish champions have won the Champions League two times in four years.
Italian Opera singer Andrea Botticelli got things started with a rendition of the Champions League anthem "Gladiator". In Rome, two champions would stage a fierce battle thousands of years ago to prove who was the better "Gladiator". And in early stages of this match, it seemed that United were the ones with the sharper weapon, namely Cristiano Ronaldo.
