US officials say the crew is believed to be safe, but the three other pirates were thrown overboard. Pirates hijacked the US-flagged,

Danish-owned cargo ship in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday, about 500 kilometers off the coast of Somalia.

The vessel with 20 US crew members on board was carrying emergency relief to Kenya when it was seized.
