The children's Halloween parade took place in New York City on Friday, with costumes ranging from pumpkins to knights, as well as more traditional Halloween fare of ghosts and goblins.

Each year the children's parade serves as a precursor to the annual Halloween parade for adults. The grown-up version features 60-thousand costumed participants.
Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31st in many western countries and is thought to have originated in Britain around 2000 years ago as a pagan festival.
