The largest project on goose-liver production in Asia was kicked off in Beihai Saturday by China and the French MIDI Corporation, a major provider in the world goose-liver market.
Goose-liver, rich in unsaturated fatty acid and various vitamins, is a popular food in western countries. In the group's main markets in the European countries, the United States, Canada and Japan, 15,000 tons of goose-livers are consumed per year.
Although the price per kilogram averages US$40 to US$50, and the most expensive can fetch up to US$200, there are no other large-scale goose-liver producing bases in Asian countries including China.
With 15,000 tons as its secondary-stage production, the project will have a marked influence on the world goose-liver market, sources with the program said.
