It is a priority for public security departments to increase their preventive measures against crimes and to push the strike-hard campaign to ensure a festive Chinese Lunar New Year, said State Councilor Luo Gan in Beijing Friday.
The strike against criminal activities is going smoothly and made remarkable achievements last year, reducing the number of criminal cases by 39.2 percent, compared with 2000, according to a report delivered at the conference on social security, which was opened in Beijing Friday.
Luo noted at the conference that it is important to find and remove the root cause of social problems and to mobilize the public to take measures to prevent criminal activities.
The strike-hard campaign should be continued and greater efforts should be made to track down the mastermind behind criminals and criminal gangs, especially those involved in organized crimes, Luo stressed.
The state councilor said that during the Spring Festival holidays, inspections and on-the-spot checks should be made in key public areas and traffic systems.
