The crime rate in this Chinese capital in the first 11 months this year dropped by 3.8 percent from the same period of last year, according to the city's public security bureau.
Remarkable falls were seen in theft and robbery cases, down by 18.2 percent and 18.8 percent respectively during the period, while the rate of solved criminal cases was improved by 21.6 percent, the bureau said.
The police launched a series of attacks upon various crimes since the beginning of this year, eradicating 3180 criminal gangs, capturing 1620 fugitive criminals via computer and the Internet, solving 1800 drug cases and confiscating 99,400 grams of narcotics, and solving 5620 economic crimes and retrieving money and goods worth 7.3 billion yuan (US$880 million), according to the bureau.
