Chinese leaders Jiang Zemin and Li Peng have given advice to the Beijing-based China University of Political Science and Law which celebrated its 50th anniversary Sunday.
In his message of congratulation to the university, President Jiang wrote, "Promote the spirit of governing the country by law, and cultivate a new generation of legal experts."
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, wrote, "Train highly qualified experts in political science and law, and build a socialist country which is governed by law."
At a celebration held at the Great Hall of the People, Jiang Chunyun, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made a speech, urging teachers and students to follow President Jiang's instructions and learn foreign experience, while paying close attention to China's own situation in improving the country's legal and political system.
More than 100,000 students have graduated from the China University of Political Science and Law since it was founded in 1952 as a cradle of highly qualified legal experts. Most of them are now major players in judicial organs, Party and government departments, enterprises and social institutions all over the country.
The university has also contributed to the enactment of China's major laws.
