Picture Exhibition on Chinese Peking Opera Opens in Vietnam

A picture exhibition, "The Arts of Chinese Peking Opera," opened in Vietnam's central city Hue Thursday morning.

The exhibition with a total of 51 photos shows a number of brilliant tableaux of Peking opera's arts from various angles, reflecting the splendid arts of China's Peking opera, a quintessence of Chinese culture.

The director of the Culture and Information Department of Vietnam's Thua Thien-Hue province, Nguyen Xuan Hoa, made a speech at the ceremony of the exhibition that China had created the spiritual and material civilization of unique style admired by mankind.

Hoa expressed his belief that the Peking opera's making-up, music for voices, and the arts of performance must draw much attention of Vietnamese audiences.

A Peking opera troupe of Chinese Yunnan Province will also visit and perform in Vietnam at the invitation of the Organization Committee of Hue International Festival, which is scheduled to be opened on May 4, 2002.

Hue, located in the central region of Vietnam, is Vietnam's famous historical and cultural city, which was the capital of Nguyen Dynasty, Vietnam's last feudal dynasty.
