More Achievements Urged in Social Sciences

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) urged social science circles to make more academic achievements and provide more good advice to the country's decision makers.

At the annual work meeting of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Li Tieying, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that the CASS researchers should help the CPC central committee to make theoretical preparation for the scheduled 16th CPC national congress later this year.

Li, also CASS president, urged the scholars to study major and practical issues faced by the country in the new century and shape systematic theories in building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Meanwhile, Li encouraged CASS researchers to create more outstanding social science works in the new century.

He also warned against the behavior of being eager for quick success and instant benefit among social science experts in modern times.

Li said that CASS must strengthen its internal reform for meeting new requirements of the society.

CASS should cultivate a good number of gifted social scientists and promising young scholars.

In recent years, CASS researchers studied 203 key subjects in the field.

Starting from 2001, Li himself led scientific groups to start 13 important projects, including a study on labor and labor value and economic globalization.
