Japan's Mitsubishi Motor Vehicles Co. has been ordered by a Chinese court to pay eight million yuan to a Chinese firm as compensation for defective tip lorries.
The Higher People's Court of Shanxi Province ruled that Mitsubishi must pay 8.02 million yuan to the Commerce and Trade Group of Pingding County in the province for 20 defective tip lorries bought by the Chinese firm in May 1997.
This is the second time in recent months that Mitsubishi has been involved in a defective products case in China.
Earlier this month, the Japanese firm apologized to Chinese consumers for its defective Pajero/V73 cars and promised free replacements.
The court confirmed that all 20 of the lorries have manufacture defects that have led to abnormal wear and tear on their engines.
