Bangladeshi President Shahabuddin Ahmed Monday reiterated Bangladesh's support to the Chinese government on the Taiwan issue, hoping China will achieve reunification as soon as possible.
Meeting with a visiting Chinese military delegation led by General Fang Zuqi, Political Commissar of Nanjing Military Command, the president pointed out that the some forces are plotting independence of Taiwan, which poses a big threat to the global peace and stability.
Calling for political leaders in Taiwan to resume talks with the mainland government, Shahabuddin believed that Taiwan will ultimately return to the motherland.
Recalling the traditional friendship between Bangladesh and China, the president said the further development of the Sino- Bangladesh relationship will contribute to the regional and global peace and stability.
Noting at the meeting that China and Bangladesh share common ground on many outstanding international issues, General Fang Zuqi expressed his gratitude to the president for Bangladesh's consistent support to the Chinese government on Taiwan, Tibet and human rights issues.
Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, once Taiwan declares independence, or is invaded by foreign countries, or the leaders of Taiwan refuse to hold talks for a long period, the Chinese government will use all necessary means to achieve reunification, the general stressed.
The Chinese military delegation also held talks with Chief of Army Staff Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman Monday morning. The cooperation between the two armies in training support, material support and assistance in modernization and upgrade of equipment and armaments was discussed during the talks.
