Both Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Finnish President Tarja Halonen voiced confidence on Saturday about the future prospects of Sino-Finnish relations.
They shared the view in congratulatory messages sent to each other on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between their two countries.
Halonen noted in her message that developments in fields such as telecommunications and information technology, and diplomatic relations, have presented new opportunities seemingly remote to China and Finland several years ago.
She called on the two countries to seize the opportunity to push their cooperation to a level beyond what they can imagine today.
Jiang said that he is satisfied with the steady development of bilateral relations and is confident that by working together the two countries will go far with their cooperative and mutually beneficial relations.
Both leaders praised the progress made in Sino-Finnish cooperation over the past 50 years.
On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Finnish counterpart, Erkki Tuomioja, also exchanged congratulatory messages to mark the anniversary, both expressing hope for the expansion of bilateral cooperation.
