Lobsang Toinzhub, vice chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, recently paid a visit to Bomi Qambalozhub, a renowned living Buddha, to extend best wishes on the eve of the Tibetan New Year.
Lobsang Toinzhub said the year 2001 will be an unusual year for Tibet which will celebrate its 50th anniversary of peaceful liberation.
"Great progress has been made in all areas of development in Tibet. It is inseparable from the support of religious circles. So long as we consolidate unity in the new century, greater progress will be achieved," he added.
Bomi Qambalozhub, 83, said this is the best period for the development of Tibetan Buddhism. He will continue to practice Buddhist doctrine, protect the legitimate rights and interests of Buddhism believers and bring benefit to the people.
