While many people still see Tibet as a remote place with poor communications facilities, some local young people in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, are sending New Year's greetings via Internet.
During the Spring Festival, the traditional Chinese New Year, which fell on January 24 this year, web bars in the city, totaling 38, were crowded with youngsters to greet their faraway friends on line.
An official from the regional telecommunications authorities said that in recent years, Tibet has tried hard to modernize its telecommunications networks.
So far, all counties in this remote Himalayan region, in southwest China, have access to telephone services.
The modernized telecommunications networks have encouraged people from other areas to work in Tibet or visit to look for business opportunities.
