A new institute of higher learning, the Macao University of Science and Technology, was officially founded in Macao Wednesday and a ground-breaking ceremony for a new site of the university was held.
Comprising four colleges, the private university is sponsored by a host of celebrities in Macao and has won cooperative support from universities in the inland areas of China.
Involving a total investment of 600 million patacas (US$75 million), construction of the campus will be competed in five years in three stages.
Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, attended the ceremony, noting that the university will greatly promote the development of higher learning in Macao.
