Liang-jen Chang, managing director of Chung Hwa Travel Service, an important Taiwan businessinstitution in Hong Kong, Thursday congratulated Hong Kong SpecialAdministrative Region's Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa on his victory in winning a second term.
"I congratulate Tung on his success in winning a second-term aschief executive and hope Hong Kong's tomorrow will be better," Chang told Xinhua in a telephone interview.
Chang made the remarks immediately after the Registration and Electoral Office announced the nomination result Thursday afternoon, which said Tung won 90 percent support from the 794 Election Committee members.
Taiwan is one of Hong Kong's important trade partners, having registered a trade volume of 24.6 billion HK dollars (3.15 billionU.S. dollars) by the end of November, according to an official of Chung Hwa.
At least 3,000 enterprises of Taiwan have launched operations in Hong Kong or in the mainland of China via Hong Kong, the official said.
The number of people traveling between Hong Kong and Taiwan hasbeen increasing over the past years, reaching 2.4 million last year. More than 270,000 Hong Kong people asked Chung Hwa to arrange a tour to Taiwan last year, according to the official.
