Order for Importation and Exportation Tightened

The first quarter of this year saw the Chinese custom track down 2,694 cases of smuggling with a total value of 1.265 billion yuan retrieved and coercive measures taken against some 900 odd suspicions. It has thus obtained periodic achievements, according to today's People's Daily.

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, the first quarter of 2001 saw falls of both smuggling cases and value retrieved from these cases, indicating a continuous curb over large-scale smuggling activities. Nevertheless, smuggling crimes of cultural heritage, drug, discs and others showed evident rise at the same time.

As required by Mou Xinsheng, director of the General Administration of Customs, at a national conference of custom held recently, the nationwide task of rectification should be carried out promptly to prevent resurgence of smuggling and other crimes with the cooperation of taxation, banks, industry and commerce, quality inspection and other department concerned. Besides, it should standardize the declaration, improve the classification of enterprises, rectify business conduct of enterprises of transportation, storage and procession and close or shout out for rectification docks, container yards, storehouse, supervision points of transloading and others which can't meet the qualification for supervision or have seen occurrence of smuggling for several times.
