Mobile phone users of China Unicom in Shanghai have exceeded 1 million, since China Unicom established its Shanghai branch six years ago, which also makes Shanghai the country's first city with over 1 million China Unicom users.
Now, together with 3 million users of Shanghai Mobile Communications Company (SMCC), the number of mobile phone users in Shanghai is over 4 million, and the number is the biggest among China's major cities.
This means that one out of four people in Shanghai have a mobile phone.
Besides China Telecom, China Unicom is another company approved by the State Council to extend its telecom business. The GSM mobile phone network capacity of Shanghai Unicom developed from 20,000 lines to 1.2 million lines, and mobile phone users from 10,000 to 1 million in a six-year period.
Experts believe that the mobile phone business of China Unicom in Shanghai, after the incubation period, has moved into a period of high speed development.
