Drug-related shootings have left 14 people dead in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico's most violent town on U.S. border, over past few days, the government said Friday.

Ten of them were killed in a bar in the Maria Isabel district when a group of gunmen opened fire. Eight died on the spot, and the rest two died early Friday morning after being hospitalized, according to a statement from the General Prosecutor's Office of Chihuahua State where the town is located.

Another four people, including a 10-year-old boy, were killed at a small restaurant when unknown gunmen attacked customers there. The shooting prompted evacuation of a nearby elementary school.

Ciudad Juarez had been one of Mexico's most violent cities for decades because of heavy infightings among competing drug gangs. Over recent years it has further slipped into one of the most violent towns in the world due to intensified turf wars among drug cartels.
