The 11th typhoon, Fanapi hit Taiwan and the mainland's eastern provinces. The meteorological bureau warns Fanapi could be the strongest typhoon the country has seen this year.

In Taiwan, residents have started the job of clearing up their homes after massive flooding. The storm killed two people and caused severe damage. It also dumped more than a meter of rainfall in some places.

Military vehicles have entered flooded areas to help trapped residents in the southern part of the island, including the second largest city, Kaohsiung.

There, floodwaters have submerged streets and the first floor of many buildings. Many vehicles have been inundated and the city's drainage system has also been damaged.

Meanwhile, local residents waded through ankle-deep mud to clean up their homes.
