The 11th typhoon, Fanapi is approaching Taiwan and is expected to hit the mainland's eastern provinces. The meteorological bureau warns Fanapi could be the strongest typhoon the country has seen this year.
The weather bureau forecasts that typhoon Fanapi will land at Taiwan by Sunday noon. It is expected to rip through the island and make another landfall on the mainland's eastern coast of Fujian province on Sunday night or Monday morning.
With wind expected to reach 96 to 110 mph when Fanapi lands, Taiwan has alerted local residents of heavy rains and even mudslides.
Xie Mingchang, Weatherman, said, "This is the first typhoon to directly hit the island this year. The rain will reach its peak on Sunday. We should be alert for heavy tides and mudslides."
