The news that seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is to make a comeback for Ferrari to replace injured driver Felipe Massa has stunned most in the sport. Some have doubted the wisdom of this comeback, but former world champion Niki Lauda thinks it makes perfect sense.

Niki Lauda, former world champion said:"Schumacher will do a super job. The comeback is a sensation. Formula 1 needs positive inputs for the fans and for Ferrari, for everything that will happen in Valencia. Well, to me it's a sensation that is needed in Formula 1. How he will do, we will see at the Grand Prix, but surely not bad."

Since Schumacher retired from the sport back in 2006, a whole new generation of drivers has arrived on the scene, such as reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel. Austrian Lauda won the world championship for Ferrari in 1975 and 1977.

He believes that Schumacher will be keen to see how he performs in comparison with his Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen before worrying about the young guns. Ferrari is to hold a special training program in the coming days to determine whether he will be able to drive at the European Grand Prix in Valencia at the end of next month.
