A 17-month-old male gorilla in the Shanghai Zoo has his own name- Haibei. Haibei represents "treasure of Shanghai". And the pronunciation in Chinese sounds like "happy".
"Haibei" is the first gorilla born in Shanghai, and also the first in China since 1982.
Shanghai Zoo solicit proposed names for the gorilla from the public when his was one years old.
Yao Jianzhuang, director of the Shanghai Zoo Primates Pavilion, said, "Haibei weighs about 15 kilograms grown 13 kilos after birth. Now he is able to act independently. Haibei eats about 500 grams a day."
Haibei lives with his parents now, and becomes a cute sticky guy.
Gorillas are the largest living primates. An adult male gorilla is about 1.7 meters high and with weigt of about 300 kilograms. There are 9 gorillas in China, and 5 of them live in Shanghai.
