Another factor in this year's tour is American cyclist Lance Armstrong. In the Tour of Italy half a month ago, he finished 12th overall. Armstrong was satisfied with his performance and it has become quite possible that he will take part in the tour. Although cycling fans are eager to see him contesting the physically-demanding tour, there should be a realistic expectation of the 7-time former Tour winner. Armstrong himself cautioned that he may disappoint his fans. But the career and life of the cancer survivor has been filled with miracles, and his fans will hold out hope for one more.
The tour starts on July 4th in Monaco and finishes on the 26th in Paris at the Champs-Elysee. By the time it is over, the riders will have covered 3,445 kilometers. This is the first time in the tour's history that the event will visit Monaco. Another interesting change in the new route is the penultimate stage from Montelimar to Mont Ventoux. The mountain climbs will probably decide the final winner.
