Chinese premier Wen Jiabao has met with his counterpart from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kim Yong Il. It's Kim's first visit to China since he assumed office in 2007.

Wen Jiabao hosted a welcome ceremony for DPRK Premier Kim Yong Il at the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday.
The Chinese premier invited his DPRK counterpart to attend the opening ceremony of the "Year of DPRK-China Friendship." 2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Wen Jiabao says exchanges between the two countries have benefited both sides, and China and the DPRK have both made positive contributions to maintaining regional security and peace.
