Brown said the US president was taking the right actions to stem the financial crisis.
Gordon Brown, British Prime Minister, said, "I think President Obama is absolutely right and I think the history books will record that what he has done in his first nearly fifty days of office has been momentous in setting the means by which we can see the economic recovery happening."
Brown is the first European leader to visit Obama since he took office.
His trip also laid the groundwork for next month's G-20 summit in London.
Obama was also asked by reporters about a letter he sent to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Obama said he told Russia that reducing Iran's nuclear ambitions would in turn lessen the need for a planned US missile defense system in Eastern Europe, which Russia opposes.
