Hillary Rodham Clinton has become the third woman to hold the position of US Secretary of State. Clinton was sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden in Washington DC on Monday.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Clinton said she is an optimist. She expressed belief that she and her colleagues can achieve what they set their minds to.
Clinton also thanked her husband, former US president Bill Clinton, for his support. Sources say Clinton is looking to Asia as she plans her first trip abroad as secretary of state.
The State Department has not yet commented on Clinton's travel plans.
