China's New Year painting is one of the more enduring Chinese folk arts. It's an auspicious interior decoration which is put on to welcome China's lunar New Year. One of the most well known types of New Year painting comes from Mianzhu in southwestern China. It was one of the badly-hit areas in last year's Wenchuan earthquake. This week, Mianzhu has seen its first New Year painting festival after the natural disaster.

Though they're living in temporary housing, the locals who lost their houses in the earthquake haven't forgotten the tradition of New Year painting.
A Mianzhu resident said, "The paintings are symbols of the lunar New Year and help get us in the festive mood. This is a display of special new year paintings of Mianzhu, for us and for those who visit."
A visitor said, "I'm on a business trip. I'd like to buy some paintings for my family and my friends, especially those who come from abroad. It's a way to pass on the beauty and warmth of Mianzhu residents."
