Gas price talks between Ukraine and Russia remain at a stalemate with Kiev refusing to pay the amount being asked for a 2009 gas supply deal. The Ukraine state energy company says Russia was asking for 450 US dollars per thousand cubic meters of gas. Ukraine has insisted on a price of 201 US dollars, up from 2008's 180 US dollars. Russia, which cut off supplies to Ukraine on New Year's Day because of the dispute over pricing and debts, has repeatedly said Kiev must pay the going market rate for gas.
