President Hu Jintao has outlined the Chinese government's measures to maintain healthy economic growth. It came in his speech at the APEC Chief Executive Officers' Summit in Peru on Friday. He called on APEC members to work together to safeguard development in the Asia-Pacific region. Meanwhile, on the sidelines, Hu Jintao met with Kuomintang's Honorary Chairman Lien Chan.
Addressing the APEC CEO summit, President Hu Jintao said China will continue to follow the path of industrialization by embracing scientific and technological progress, improving the quality of its workforce, and developing innovative management strategies.
He said since the beginning of this year, China has taken robust measures to address the complex changes in the international financial and economic environment, as well as severe challenges brought by major natural disasters.
Hu Jintao said apart from decisive fiscal and monetary measures to boost economic development, China has also adopted strong measures to generate greater domestic demand, by injecting billions of yuan into projects related to people's livelihood, infrastructure, the environment, and post-disaster reconstruction.
The Chinese president also called on APEC members to deepen regional cooperation and jointly respond to current challenges. He said an effective response to the financial crisis and the maintenance of global economic stability are crucial to growth and prosperity for both the region and the world.
