But many in the community objected to the portrayal of the community through toilet humor. Discommoded residents of the town launched a protest.
The council relented and imported a former events manager from Sydney to re-brand Duneydoo as a centerpiece of artistic sensibility.
So instead of a being greeted by an oversized toilet, visitors to Dunedoo are welcomed by an immense sculpture of a pencil, reminding travelers there is culture here.
Director Penny Stevens hopes the re-branding will flush out all connotations between the town and outdoor toilets.
Dunedoo is an Aboriginal word meaning black swan. People of the town even considered having a sculpture of a black swan for their big sculpture.
Dunedoo's "Art Unlimited" exhibition ran late in October. The inaugural affair showed promise with queries about the festival coming from as far afield as New York and Portugal.
