China's 25th Antarctic Expedition team has begun its comprehensive observation and research on the ocean. The team is conducting their research in the Southern Ocean.
The Xuelong ice breaker broke through the ocean ice on its way to the Zhongshan station in the South Pole. The team of scientists are collecting temperature data and biologic samples from the ocean.
They are also releasing weather balloons to gather meteorological information. The observed ocean changes will be studied to understand their effects on climate and the environment.
