Cuban women's volleybal team will start Saturday a tour through China and Switzerland, as part of their training for the Pan American Cup in Mexico this summer, reported the local media on Tuesday.
The three-time Olympic and world champions will play matches this weekend in East China's Henan and Zhejiang provinces before travel to Switzerland to attend the major Volley Masters in Montreaux on June 8-13.
According to the official daily Granma, the Swiss tournament will serve to the 'Caribbean Brunettes' as warming up event for the Pan American Cup from June 16 to 22 in Baja California, Mexico, which will award three tickets to the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) for the Grand Prix next year.
Cuba didn't qualify for the last two editions of Grand Prix, accroding to Granma, who recalled their fourth finish at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The team consists of Giselle de la Caridad Silva, Rachel Sanchez, Giel and Lianne Roxana Castaneda (middle), and Wilma Salas, Yoanna Palace, Kenya Carcaces and Daymara Lescay(outside hitters).
Also Yusidey Silie, Yanelis Santos and Ana Yilian Cleg (Setters), and libero Lisbet Arredondo have been called up.
