美迫推特出卖维基解密
US wants Twitter's WikiLeaks records

WikiLeaks' Twitter page is seen on a computer screen. A U.S. court has ordered Twitter to hand over details of the accounts of WikiLeaks and several supporters as part of a criminal investigation into the release of hundreds of thousands of confidential documents.

Documents from the US District Court in Virginia show that the US government is demanding the social networking site Twitter hand over personal details of people connected to WikiLeaks, BBC reports. Those named include WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and an Icelandic congressman. The court says that the information held by Twitter is "relevant and material to an ongoing criminal investigation." The San Francisco-based Twitter was given three days to respond.

Twitter has declined to comment on the claim, saying only: "To help users protect their rights, it's our policy to notify users about law enforcement and governmental requests for their information, unless we are prevented by law from doing so." Assange's lawyer, Mark Stephens, criticized the US government, saying it's intimidating people. "It's a great disappointment that the Department of Justice has stopped playing lawyers and started playing politics," Stephens said.

推特日前已拒绝评论美国政府的这一要求，仅表示“为了保护用户利益，我们有职责将执法机关和政府的要求告诉用户，除非法律不允许我们这样做。”阿桑奇的律师马克•史蒂芬斯批评了美国政府，并称这种行为是恐吓民众，他指出：“（美国）司法部开始藐视法律，玩起了政治，让人失望至极。”
