An estimated 100,000 new suspected cases of A/H1N1 flu were reported in Britain last week, the health department said Thursday.

Among the cases, some 840 people have been hospitalized and 63 are in intensive care.

Last week, Britain authorities reported some 55,000 new suspected cases of the virus in the previous week.

A total of 31 people have been killed by the flu in the country.

The British government Thursday launched a National Flu Pandemic Service to provide more speedy drug assistance for flu sufferers, who can visit a new flu Web site or call a flu hotline for aid.

Out of the total 18,000 confirmed cases of A/H1N1 flu in Europe, some 11,000 are in Britain, according to the Stockholm-based European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
