Chinese local agricultural and fishery departments should get prepared for super-strong typhoon Jangmi and try to ensure farmers and fishermen's safety, said the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) Sunday night.
In an urgent notice on its website www.agri.gov.cn, the ministry told the fishery and agricultural departments in the country's southeastern areas to mobilize farmers to harvest mature crops against time, keep the public informed and help fishing vessels avoid risks.
The MOA called on local authorities to learn from successful experiences of fighting typhoons, provide timely disaster-relief services and strengthen dykes.
Two eastern provinces Fujian and Zhejiang have relocated more than 330,000 people as Jangmi is forecast to slam into Fujian late Monday afternoon or evening.
The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters launched a level-two emergency response plan on Sunday and dispatched working groups to Fujian, Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces to step up anti-typhoon efforts.
