Lu Yongxiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), switched on a long-distance educational communication system connecting Beijing and Shanghai Wednesday morning system.
The launch of the long-distance educational system is an important step in the CAS knowledge and creation project, he said.
As China's top academic body and research center for natural sciences, the CAS has set up research branches all over the country. Linking scientists in different regions and sharing information, and educational and research resources are believed to be significant to the sustainable development of CAS.
In its blueprint for the next decade, CAS plans to fully use its digital scientific laboratory, scientific information network, academic magazines, specific museums, botanical gardens and observatories to spread scientific knowledge, create a scientific spirit and promote scientific methods.
The CAS will spend 5 to 10 years building an information platform for electronic science, which will help scientists carry out research in a suitable environment, and boost national and multi-subject cooperation and exchanges.
