Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will henceforth use 40 percent of its total outlay into basic researches, striving for outstanding results with Nobel levels, Bai Chunli, vice president of CAS said at today's work meeting in Beijing.
In recent years, the CAS has made great achievements in many fields including human gene, rice gene, paleontology and paleoanthropology, and Nano-technology. However, the CAS also has problems, such as outdated concept, deficient confidence, few international cooperation, and protracted strategy.
To solve the problems, the CAS will adopt nine measures for increasing the creativeness. The measures are as follows:
Keep steadily inputting on basic researches;
Strengthen the cultural construction and create a good environment for innovation;
Map out the long-term strategy;
Support the multidiscipline scientific research;
Improve the appraisal system;
Establish an outstanding contingent and ensure a health development;
Keep on a sustainable development;
Strengthen the international cooperation.
According to the measures, the CAS is scheduled to set up some 20 world well-known labs by 2010, of which 5 to 8 are at world top level.
